Good Faith Estimate

What is a Good Faith Estimate?

Good Faith Estimates represent our commitment to pricing transparency. While it is not possible for a psychotherapist to know, in advance, how many psychotherapy sessions may be necessary or appropriate for a given person, a Good Faith Estimate serves as a reference point for the cost of care. The total cost of care will depend upon the number of psychotherapy sessions, individual circumstances, and the type and amount of services that are provided. A Good Faith Estimate is not a contract or obligation.

Is a Good Faith Estimate a treatment plan?

No, the Good Faith Estimate is not a treatment plan. A Good Faith Estimate is not intended to serve as a recommendation for treatment or a prediction of the number of psychotherapy visits. The number of visits that are appropriate, and the estimated cost for those services, depends on individual needs and what is agreed to in consultation with your therapist. You are entitled to disagree with any recommendations made to you concerning your treatment and you may discontinue treatment at any time.

Why is a good faith estimate important?

Providing clarity in pricing allows for you to make the most informed decision for your circumstances.

What can I expect with pricing?

In 2024, the basic fee for a 50-minute psychotherapy visit (in person or via telehealth) is $150 or £150. Specialized treatment approaches, such as EMDR, have different rates. Most clients will attend one psychotherapy visit per week, but the frequency of psychotherapy visits that are appropriate in your case may be more or less than once per week, depending upon your needs or desires. Rates are reviewed annually. At least 30 days written notice will be given for any rate increase, and a new Good Faith Estimate will be provided.

What if I am concerned about pricing?

You are encouraged to speak with your provider at any time about any questions you may have regarding pricing, payment, or your treatment. Open communication is an incredibly important part of therapy - especially when discomfort may be present.

What if the actual price of my therapy is different from the Good Faith Estimate?

In the unlikely event of a payment disagreement, you have a right to initiate a dispute resolution process. If the actual amount charged to you exceeds the estimated charges stated in your Good Faith Estimate by $400 or more, you may file a dispute.

  1. Contact your services provider in writing. Oceania International Counselling Services will make every effort to resolve payment disputes promptly.

  2. In the unlikely event an agreement cannot be reached with Oceania International Counselling Services, you may file a complaint with the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). If you choose this dispute option, you will be required to submit your claim within 120 calendar days (about four months) from the date of your first bill. There is a $25 fee to utilize HHS dispute process. If the agency reviewing your claims agrees with you, you will have to pay the price of the Good Faith Estimate. If the agency disagrees with you and agrees with your health care provider, you will be required to pay the full amount. Please visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises for more information or to start your dispute claim.
